Proposal for an Interfaith City-Wide Gathering

What: A city-wide gathering lasting several hours to affirm monotheism and the need for all who believe in God to recommit themselves to fulfilling the requirements of their beliefs with utmost seriousness for the sake of peace and justice.

Who: Pittsburgh members of the Abrahamic faith traditions: Jews, Christians, Muslims.

Why: Surveys reveal that over 90% of Americans claim to "believe in God". This must give all adherents to the Abrahamic traditions pause in light of the rates of crime and injustice in the United States. Jews, Christians and Muslims can easily agree that the foundations for all social and individual peace and justice is found in authentic worship of the One True God. A society where this is absent or inauthentic will display increased chaos and injustice, or will simply fail to grow in peace and justice. We Abrahamic monotheists can come together in order to call the city-- perhaps even the country-- to a serious consideration of problems in America's religious practice and authenticity, which is clearly lacking given the statistics on belief in God.

Pros: Unique: no one has done it before

Positive Message: good news story

Easy: all groups can agree on the focus

only need to organize for at most a one-day event

Simple: no need to enter into specific theologies

Cons: Leaves out polytheists and others

Some may insist on asserting specific theological statements other than simple monotheism
