Making Sense of Religion &
Spirituality"Yes! It can make sense!
I have always been fascinated by religion-- the stories, the experience, the possibility of some ultimate something. Certainly, religion is a powerful force in human life-- for good and bad-- and religion certainly makes some heady claims regarding the nature of reality. Unfortunately, most of us don't really spend too much time on the subject. Now, I'm not talking about time spent learning about our own religious tradition, should we have one. Nor am I talking about debating who is right and who is wrong, who goes to hell and who to heaven. No, I mean religion in and of itself.
If you have the slightest interest in religio-spirituality this page is for you. You should find that it presents a rather unique take on the topic. You may never understand religiosity in quite the same way again. The contents of this page appear to me to be not only academically sound, but validated by general human experience. There is a lot of text here, and a number of interrelated ideas. However, the material is not so complicated as one may think. It should be accessible and of interest from high school students to adults.
If you are a faculty member or clinician you will find here a contemporary and apparantly valid set of intellectual tools to understand religio-spirituality. Indeed, the material points in the direction of the possiblity for clinical assessment and praxis in this area of human expression. All of the assertions have an academic foundation. Names of theorists are at times mentioned. Please e-mail for more detailed references or material.
