10 Digit Dialing Configuration (Windows 2000)

  1. From your desktop, left click your "Start" button, then go to "Settings," and then left click on the "Network and Dial-up Connections" folder.
  2. In the new window that appears, right-click on the CityNet icon and then click on "Properties" with your left mouse button. (If you are uncertain which icon represents your connection to CityNet, click here)
  3. A new window will open:

In the above image, the phone number "2082828" is shown as an example. This is not necessarily your CityNet dial-up number. Likewise, the "Connect using" box will show the name of your modem rather than the one above and should be left unchanged.

  4. Under "Phone number" you should see the phone number that your computer dials to get on the Internet. Make a note of this number and its area code.
  5. Uncheck the little white box next to "Use dialing rules".
  6. Left mouse click in the "Phone number" box and clear the contents using your backspace key.
  7. If you need to dial "9" to make out going calls, first enter "9,," into the box (without the quotes).
  8. If you have call waiting, enter "*70," into the phone number box (without the quotes).
  9. Using the phone number you discovered in Step 4, enter the area code followed by the seven digit phone number your computer uses to call CityNet. There is no need to use hyphens, spaces, parenthesis, or any other notation. Do not use the area code box. If you are not sure which number your computer uses to call CityNet, refer to the following list:
